INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY ACCESS TO CHILD HEALTH (ICATCH)
2025-2028 GRANT CYCLE
PRELIMINARY APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Call for Proposals
The Call for Proposals outlines important details about the requirements for eligibility, the list of countries in which projects can be carried out, and the types of proposals we will accept this cycle.
Please read it carefully before starting your preliminary application.
Eligibility to Apply
Your proposal must be in one of these five areas:
- Physical or Developmental Disabilities in Children (infants to 21 years). Includes developmental delay, early childhood development, or physical disabilities that are congenital or acquired (e.g., blindness, deafness, cerebral palsy, impairment following conditions such as cerebral malaria or head trauma, or seizure disorder, etc.). Note: We will not fund proposals that only carry out screening for disabilities; projects that include screening must also include treatment or therapy for the disability.
- Childhood or Adolescent Mental Health (3 years to 21 years).
- Newborn Health. Projects must focus on the newborn period and can follow infants up to 6 months of age. (Note: We will not fund proposals in this area that target only pregnant women or infants older than 6 months of age.)
- Nutrition/Malnutrition (For infants 6 months and older through people aged 21 years). This can include both community- and hospital-based programs.
- Care of Hospitalized Children (infants to 21 years)
- Congenital and Acquired Cardiac Conditions (including infants, children, and young adults up to 21 years of age). We will fund projects related to the care of and education about infants and children with congenital or acquired cardiac disease.
● We will accept only one Preliminary Application per nongovernmental organization or community group. We can accept more than one application from academic institutions and hospitals if the projects are different and submitted by different persons.
● Projects must be carried out in a low-income or low-middle-income country. Please refer to this map or this list on the World Bank website to determine if your country is eligible.
● The project director must live and work in or near the community where the project activities take place and take primary responsibility for direction and completion of the project. The project codirector may live elsewhere, including in a different country, as long as they will be actively involved in the project for all 3 years of funding.
● Projects must provide healthcare services for children or provide health education or training in one of the 5 areas described. The proposal cannot be primarily for research, although quality improvement projects can be an appropriate use of ICATCH funds.
● We discourage one-time trainings; if you are considering one-time trainings for health workers at different sites, consider instead training at fewer sites, or even just one site, with repeated follow-up reinforcement trainings with assessments of effectiveness.
Technical Instructions
● Please note that you do not need to complete this application all at once; you may stop and save your answers anytime and return to complete the form later. However, once you select “submit,” you will not be able to make further changes.
● Every box must contain an answer for the submission link to work.
● You must spell out all abbreviations (especially for organization names) the first time used.
● Your answers are limited to the space provided. No additional attachments will be accepted. However, you are encouraged to include links to active websites directly connected to your project.
● Applications must be submitted in English.
Content Instructions
● Carefully read the Call for Proposals before answering the questions.
● Keep your proposed project simple. We look more favorably on a simple proposal with a high likelihood of success than a complicated proposal that runs a risk of not being completed as planned.
● Clearly, concisely describe what you plan to do. Be very specific about what the activities will be.
● Important: Everyone who will be involved with implementing your project must be brought in on the planning at this stage. For example, if you will be working with community health workers, teachers, or nurses, you should confirm their interest and ability to participate now and seek their input in this early planning stage. Such partners must agree to participate before the preliminary application is submitted.
Deadline: Friday, December 13, 2024
All Preliminary Applications must be submitted by 11:59pm US Central Time (Chicago, Illinois, USA; equivalent to UTC-6 hrs; or Dec 14, 5:59am UTC ; or 06:59am December 14, West Africa Time).
We will email you (director, codirector, and application author, if applicable) in late January to inform you whether you have been selected to complete a full application. Full applications will be due in early March 2024. Grant winners will be notified in May 2024, and funding is awarded early July.
